Part One: Brainstorming and Ideation (Formative phase)

27/02/15

Today I have come to a final conclusion of my three story pitch's and are as follows:

#1
Man offers gestures of kindness to misfortunate people on the street, with a sadistic agenda behind it all.

#2
Boys father is killed after a long period a secrecy from his family; boy discovers what secrets he was hiding.

#3
Police run out of crime to enforce; end up creating artificial crime to solve.

My one selected story that I have elaborated on and will be conceptualising from now on is "#3" for these reasons: I felt that the simplicity of this story will be powerful for the message I wish to portray and easy to relate and identify with the audience, I believe everyone has at some point of time in their life encountered some sort of corruption or deception either in conjunction with authority or not,it is something well prevalent in the world right now. With everything that has been, and still is going on with particular events surrounding authority figures in the world, it will be no surprise to me when an audience can immediately ascertain tendencies in this story with their own life.

The extended description of this story so far is as follows:

An audacious police officer is miserable about his outstanding criminal enforcing and the fact that he has literally extinguish crime as a whole. Endeavouring for a reason to keep his job as a cop, he spends all his time planting “criminal evidence” on unwitting citizens all so he can arrest them and in turn his job is worth keeping.

I am intending to extend and elaborate on this far more over the next days.

I have done a rough concept on the basic this I can see this corrupt officer doing.

26/02/15; deciding on 3 ideas.

26/02 /15
Today was a good day of progress in the fact that I managed to develop out of my many ideas, three stories with solid foundations in which to easily identify causes of effects. I was happy to have come to the conclusion of ideas I have done considering that I was jumping back and forth between many of my ideas just because I had seen potential in all of them in their own right, however I had to be wise with them not to just oust them as incompetent but to amalgamate what I liked best in each. I had also done a few concepts of rough ideas I had conceived with these ideas.

Idea progression of Day 1 + 2

24/02/15
Day one of the assignment was the brainstorming of ideas to gain a rough grounding of where i was aiming in terms of storylines. My progress began with a dismal beginning of overwhelming thoughts which muddied the clarity of certain topics on my mind. By the end of Tuesday the 24th 2015 i was able to summarize around 10 - 15 ideas into potentially feasible stories.

25/02/15
Day two was a good day in terms of progress in the plausibility of the ideas, bouncing ideas off other students and the lecturers was good for realizing what works and what doesn't and in fact actually helped me to convince other ideas which are turning out to be very interesting. At the end of today i was happy to have one definite idea with a clear concept at this stage with more directions this one story could head in. Also having another story idea in which i found to have a solid path to pave in terms of grief leading to consequence. Still amalgamating a multitude of different ideas too get a good feel of my organic, gritty and almost grotesque style to produce one more pitchable idea for tomorrow.
